I finally got around to trying out the PLUQ. Here are a few pictures. I ran the grosgrain on all 4 side with the long side shock cord left loose to adjust the lay. I pleated the short sides and installed grommets in the center to bring the shock cord out and used cord locks to adjust the gather. I made triangle adapters out of 7/64 amsteel and used a diamond knot lanyard on the hammock suspension to attach the shock cord and cord locks. The triangle adapters have soft shackle ends to grip the diamond knots and the cord locks on the long side shock cords. In all, I'm happy with my first DIY attempt.

Nice handiwork! I especially like the minimalist triangle adapters! Nice application.

Great info, I have added snaps to the edge of my liner and have not had any issues. I like the idea of adding insulation and sewing it up.

This is the post I was looking for! I had already spent about 2 hours and a few sheets of paper trying to figure out how to do something with the poncho liner.

    Thanks so much!

Glad it could help IL_Scouter! Best of luck with your project. The PLUQ is a great intro under quilt, especially if you can get the parts inexpensively!

Very nice! I agree with dehoja, great looking triangle adapters and terrific use of soft shackles! Definitely using this idea on mine.

How would it work if you replaced the Insultex layers with a second poncho liner folded in half? Basically, you would use two PL to create one PLUQ. It would probably be heavy, but would it insulate at least as well as the PLUQ IX version?

Been thinking the same thing while I was reading this. Also for some reason I just cant wrap my head around the fact that you fold it in half and it would fit the length of the hammock. Spent 9 yrs army and love woobies but dont recall them being that long. Guess when I get home in the morning I will have to bust them out to see how long they are compared to a hammock LOL
