I've made some without pleats and they gather fine. It's easier and works great. Good luck!

Thanks! I am learning how difficult it is to sew grosgrain ribbon over the edges once it's been cut. That batting likes to expand once it's been freed!

It might be worth putting a few hand-sewn basting stitches (long, wide stitches that aren't meant to be long-term) along the sides to make that easier. It might take a little more time, but...

Or, if you have access to a bunchaton of those little binder clips (like this), they may be helpful.

    Hope it helps!

Made my first PLUQ tonight. Loosely based on Dejoha's no-sew with a few of the sew-em up qualities. I'll hang it tomorrow night for a test run and pics.

I folded the PL in half and secured it with velcro. The intent is the ability to add insulation between the layers depending on the trip. I used grommets and shock cord to gather the ends. I also used grommets and shock cord for the suspension with a small shock cord loop at mid point on either side to run the hammock side tie-outs thru.

We shall see how successful this is. Stay tuned tomorrow. Same hang time, same hang channel.

Test successful. The PLUQ does wrap around me and it does stay in place. Some improvements for the next one: offset the center loops to be more in line with the Hennessy Hammock offset side tieouts, no need for 3 ft of shock cord hanging out of either end.

I've got a box of 5 more poncho liners coming, which means more experimentation; but this will work for now. I have another campout coming in 1 1/2 weeks and the weather should cooperate for an extended test.

The gathered end made by folding the material over, grommetting it and running 1/8" shock cord thru.

Another view of the gathered end.

Instead of folding mine in half, I folded each end to the middle letting the curved ends over lap. I then sewed along the new ends. I left the middle open to add addional insulbright insulation which I then tacked down with a few stitches near each corner.

I ran a cord along the inside of each fold and tacked it into position. Then attached shock cord to each of these to complete the suspension. I still haven't figured out the best way to hook this up.

I ran a piece shock chord in the existing hem on each end to gather 'em up to snug up to the hammock.

I'm happy about it all except the suspension. I tested it out this past weekend on the screen porch and was fine down to 39*. I have to get this worked for rthe Fall MAHHA hang in two weeks.

I received a box of 5 poncho liners today. Made a new underquilt tonight. Testing this weekend camping with the Scouts.
