Thunder Swamp Trail, N. East PA

Back in Feb. I had a disk herniate on me, couldn't walk for 3 weeks, had surgery, been going to P.T., and on Fri. I had all physical restrictions lifted.
I'm not ready (yet) for a 15 or more mile day, but shorter trips are doable.

I know it's short notice, but to celebrate being able to get back into the woods
I'm planning an easy weekend trip to the Thunder Swamp Trail. JUNE 18, 19 , & 20
The plan is to hike in about 1mi. or so and find a place to base camp along a large stream . Then: do day hikes, hang around, explore the stream, etc.
It's forecast to be hot so a lazy weekend around a stream seems appropriate.

All are welcome. J.D. (aka Skydog) is going, Knotty is a maybe.
If it just ends up being J.D. & myself we will probably go to the AT where
alt. 40 crosses it in MD.

Let me know if you can make it.

I know which campsite you are going to if you are starting counterclockwise. I might be able to get there. I would have to leave really early on Sunday because my daughter is planning to take me out for father's day. Given all that has been happening I don't think I can dare to miss that. But I might very well be able to handle the hike in and out. I'll let you know later when I can get to the planning stage of the weekend.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I'm pretty much planning on being there. One complication, I gave my backpack to my new son-in-law to use on the honeymoon. Anyone got an extra that will fit a tall guy?

I did a rough pasting together of the four separate trail map images of the Thunder Swamp Trail that the PA DCNR has on their web site (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry...g/thunder.aspx). I posted it here and you can download it from the page for a better look.

I do, it has a mesh bag, but I may be able to dig up the origional. However, the mesh bag works fine.

    Cool...!

Knotty - I will bring 3 different packs - one should work for you! Could you bring an extra alky stove? Mine are "iffy" - got crushed and kinda sputter.

Rev - Hope you can make it - be nice to see you again!

No rain in the forecast. Temps will be 90 plus; so, I figure we can just spend the weekend laying in a steam!
    Happy Trails,

I never drink water. I'm afraid it will become habit-forming.

Hey! You all can't go hiking without me. That's against the rules! Enjoy the trip and make sure to take a few pictures so Oh-No can show his PT.

We will kidnap and drag you with us.
That physical therapy talk was a smokescreen to get Skydog & Knotty to show up. Then they can carry me in on a litter.

Better make that double litter. My daughter gave me the okay to start Father's Day celebrations after noon. So I won't have to leave as early as I thought.

If anyone wants to piggy back a ride out there from the center of the state I'll be taking my Blazer so room would not be an issue.

HC.... if you can get to the center of PA I'll be happy to get you the rest of the way.

Thanks much for the offer, Rev. We've got our family vacation on the calendar so that's why I won't be making it. Y'all enjoy!

Thanks for the extra pack JD. Do you want an alky stove that has a built in pot stand or one to use with an existing stand? My fav is the Fancee Feest. Will make you one of those if you want.
