Still a tenter, but looking to hang - from San Diego, CA

    Hi there,

I just recently got back into camping again after a 7 year break, and learned a little about hammock camping over at www.advrider.com since I like to ride scooters and motorcycles. Most of my camping has always been in the desert, so no trees to hang from, but I might have to find some so I can get a hammock! It looks like a nice quick and easy set up in a lightweight package.

I have also been checking out some of Shug’s videos on Youtube since someone on advrider posted a link to them. Some great info and entertainment with Shug's videos!

Welcome to the forums, steve_k. Try a hammock, you'll never want to go back to the ground! And I enjoy that Shug myself.

I will probably have to mix it up with both tent and hammock since trees are not often found in the desert. So I will have to find some new camping spots to hit up! Have slept in a hammock a few times many years ago, but it was the old school fishnet style.

Places to hang in San Diego

I'm new to hangin also and I'm scouting out some spots in SoCal myself. Right off the top I can think of the Laguna Mountain area, Julian area (Cuyamaca Rancho State Park) Palomar Mt. State Park and my favorite, Idyllwild (Riverside Co.) All of these areas are within an hour or so from Rancho Bernardo and ought to offer some nice places to camp.

If you want to see some photos of the area, check out my hiking blog and audio journal, its based out of Temecula and I've done hikes all around the southland with photos and video. You should get a pretty good idea of what the area looks like before you saddle up and head out.

    Good luck

    Hi Anthony,

Cool stuff on your blog, I like the old LA Zoo photos. The only other time I have seen the old LA Zoo was in that Dragnet or Mod Squad remake!

Thanks for the info on those areas. A couple of those I have already thought about, but after hearing your suggestion, I think they got moved up the list!

    Thanks again!

The Shug (as he calls himself) is a crack up, and a great source of info! I have forwarded his videos to a couple of people already, and they too also enjoy him.
