    Post Pay It Forward Box

    Rules
Step one: As the box holder, select someone from this thread,
Step two: PM them requesting their address.
Step three: Send them the Box.
Box recipient takes one item out, then places one or more items in the box.
Box recipient, becomes Box holder. Refer to Step one:

This is not a new idea but I haven't seen it posted here on HF.

The idea, if you are not familiar with it, is simple. Take something out, put something in it, and send it to the next person.

I'd be willing to start a box with a few misc camping supplies, maybe a few things focused towards Hammock Hanging. I would suggest either keeping the list of participants down to maybe 50 people, or keeping this thread running; The last person to receive the box posts asking for the next address, then the first person to PM that person and post PM'd in the thread will be sent the box. The latter way is an attempt to keep dozens of folks PMing the last person.

If this sounds like something you'd like to see happen, lets hear from you.
MODDERATORS: If this is in the wrong area of HF or you have any objections, let me know. This is me just thinking out loud for the moment.

    Happy Trails.

I believe something along these lines was suggested a year or so back. After a long running discussion I think it was decided that there were just too many problems involved and that was when the forum was much smaller than it is today. Still think it's a good idea though, if you can figure out how to make it work.

I think the previous attempt was problematic because the starter was asking manufacturers to chip in expensive gear to get it going, with no 'minimum' rules.

If you want to start one, go right ahead. It will just be an informal thing among the members.

I definately see just how large of an undertaking it could be if done improperly. I could however see this as a Sticky with the rules being in LARGE BOLD text.

PM the current box holder and post in thread that you PM'd the box holder.
Do not PM box holder if someone else got to it furst. First come, first served.

    something along those lines?

I'm not soliciting any manufacturers, that's in poor taste. If someone wants to toss in their old/slightly used (but in good condition) hammock/gear, that's up to them.

PIF Boxes are meant to little acts of kindness, or at least that;s how I see it.

I've been thinking about doing this with books. Would that be okay, as long as they have an outdoor theme?

I have PIF a couple of times and it feels great to send some good condition, or new gear forward. You never know what will be in the box when it arrives. That camping gear that you have extra of may be just what some one else is looking for.

I just PIF some gear to Stonecold. Gear he couldn't get in Scotland and I had dozens of. Hope he enjoys it.

If you get it going Please add me in. As a scout leader and hanger I have some extra gear I can donate to help fill the box.

I have done similar several times, I pick the 2nd (or 3rd etc.) who PM'd me and I send whatever I have,(I sent out many diy stoves a while back) I try to encourage the recipient to send something to someone else of their choice. Not an official thing and no lists or hoops to jump thru. Some of the folk even email back to say they appreciated the gesture, (but you might be amazed at the # of people who do not acknowledge the stuff) gnome
