2nd daytrip in my new kayak

Yesterday was a beautiful day so i headed off into the backcountry to paddle on the little slocan lakes. This was a shot leaving the Slocan Valley.I live in this general vacinity.

This looking the other direction up the Little Slocan Valley.

This is a shot on the way to the lakes looking up at the south end of Valhalla park. The peaks your looking at are part of the Mulvey cirque. You can see the Wolves Ears and just to the left is Gimli. That little piece of rock on the left is a 1000' high and one of the nicest rock climbs in southern BC.

Okie Dokie. This is taken from the north end of the Upper Little Slocan Lake and i'm working my way down to the river that joins the upper and lower lakes.

Now i'm staring to enter the river between the lakes. This was particularly nice because of seeing the grass under the water bending over from the flow and seeing these beautiful big leaves about a foot under the surface , of course i forgot to take apicture of that, still in training.

A little father down the river.

At this point or a little farther down there started to be some rapids and i wasn't sure if i could get back up or not so i'll have to check that out another day after i get some more info so i turned around and started to make my way back via the west side of the lake.

Along the way i came across a Loon sitting on her nest.

So ends another adventure for the new kid on the water. Tommorrow i get my spray skirt and some dry bags.My skills are growing each time i'm out so hopefully before too long i'll do an overnight by the water. Enjoy

Amazing pics. Are you new to kayaking or hammocking or both? My wife and I are considering getting into the kayak thing but we have no idea what we are doing any tips or advice would be most welcome!

I am brand new to kayaking and got into hammocking last year. Entering into the kayaking world was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what to get as there's so many choices out there.I'm a novice but what i would say to you is figure out where your most likely going to paddle, what your budget is and then go to some of your local kayak outfitters and try some kayaks out. Quite often outfitters have demo days where you can paddle 3-4 boats and see how they fit and feel. Your going to hear all sorts of opinions out there and it can be confusing. In the end i spent more $$ on a better boat to give myself room to grow and then jumped in realizing i'm a beginner and if this works out i will possibly trade up or different later but that i had to start somewhere. I think i made a good choice and this should give me a few years of paddling at least unless i get into touring at the coast at which point i might want a longer boat but for now i'm on the rivers and lakes around here. The water around here is cold, very cold, so i want to take it slow developing skills before i go on any longer trips camping but i'm hoping within a fews weeks to get something in. I'm really enjoying paddling a kayak , paddling and hanging seems like a good fit ,,we'll see.

Beautiful back yard. I like the way the sky and moutains reflect off of the water.

If you are just starting out with the camera also you are doing a great job.

    Hi mbiraman
Funny thing - I took my girls up to the little slocan lakes this weekend as well,
    massively bumpy road in,
I thought to drive up and have a look around . . .

Your Photo Skills are most excellent as I don't remember it being that beautiful

Thanks for the info on the middle river
as I was hoping to bring my 20' FlatBottomCanoe up
to do a little fly fishing from.
Do you think a trolling motor would beat the rapids in between ???
It moves the canoe at about 4 knots.

I am about to order my hammock this week, looking forward to its arrival.

This is my photo taken there,
my girls found something and wouldn't pose for the pic.

Was that you we were talking to at the boat launch ???
