Im just glad when I open this thread up its not on the first page anymore!! Waiting for all those pics to load sucks.

I thought about setting up a slideshow... But for some reason photobucket has started storing all the pictures backwards in numerical order. Perhaps its something Im missing.. perhaps its one of the downsides of using the free side of photobucket... Dont know. But its darn annoying.

I'm really enjoying all these different applications of splicing and rope craft. Lots of clever stuff going on here!

    Thank you very much Chris.
I now have an over-the-top full-ridgeline tarp rig which has no hardware. I have been waiting for just this sort of pictorial/tutorial to appear, you haven't dissapointed us yet, keep up the good work and I am happy to use what you like to share.

Sorry I missed you and little Opie at the Michigan Hang, I did drive pass your truck and hammock rig. but you had already gone to bed.

    Happy trails brother.

Great tutorial Opie! I'm gonna give it a try but just know mine will never come out as good as yours. Thanks for showing us how.

I just drove myself nuts for 15 minutes trying to figure out why on earth you'd need to use a 2:1 ratio to make a straight piece of cord longer - and then I realized that when you say end to end, you were talking diameter of the closed prusik loop, not tip of the shackle lock to tip of the stopper knot.

This is what happens when I try to read discussions about splicing techniques before I have enough coffee in the morning. *sigh*

Monday, I was looking for a way to make a prusik that would allow one to attach their tarp right to the prusik loop without the need for larks heading, toggling or using some sort of clip. So I took the basic premise of a soft shackle and modified it a little to allow one to create a prusik loop to attach to a tarp ridgeline.

You can also expand the utilitarian nature of these if you think about it as a mini biner. Not really good to carry much weight, but great for attaching small items to whatever, and at a fraction of the weight. The finished length I end up with in the pictures is just what I use to make the ones I sell. You can make them longer, or shorter if you have no intention of using it as a prusik.

Thanks for the tutorials you've posted, Opie. I'm making three sets of TRL's and guylines. Your photos have been a huge help to me. Also, thanks to Ikemouser for the bead idea. I make my loop a little bigger to support his bead addition. That helps me open the loop on the end to insert the stopper knot. I think that may also help if having to work in cold weather with gloves.
