    Tarp Color

Ok, so I figured I would have *no* choice in silnylon color.... turns out the distributor I decided to go with has 4 color choices. Since I'm colorblind and haven't ever really had a choice in colors in other outdoor gear, I'm turning to you guys (and gals) to help me out here. What color would you choose for a blackcat (or not black, as the case may be) tarp:

I voted "yellow" just because I need to make myself a very visible tarp for camping during hunting seasons. Never had any real problems, but I've had way too many hunters walk into camp and say they never saw me. Partly my fault for enjoying remote camping, but I'm as entitled as the next fella to be there, so I really want the hunters to get a good look at me and I figure a Blaze Orange or Bright Yellow tarp would fit the bill.

Can I ask who your distributor is? I'm interested in getting a brown tarp but was waiting for Backwoods Daydreamer to start making tarps again. Now it sounds like it might be awhile before BD will be open again.

Yah -- i just was directed to Noah lamport:

    http://www.noahlamport.com/

no web ordering... have to call them and then fax in your order. $3/yd (~62 - 64 inch wide), $5 cutting fee, and shipping fee with UPS. Ships same day if you order by about 1 or 2pm PST. This is for 2nds, which will only have cosmetic imperfections. Supplies are limited to what are on hand at the moment.

If anyone else lives in the chicago area and wants to share an order, let me know -- we can split the cutting cost and shipping! I'm probably going to get 20yds... submitting my order tomorrow morning

I voted yellow, both for the visibility and the general coolness that comes with lighter colors. I have some dark tarps and they can trap a lot of heat on a sunny day unless you really pitch them up high and have a bit of a breeze to keep the air moving.

Also, the Noah Lamport seconds sil is the best deal going - MrsMustardman made her winter tarp out of their stuff, and it doesn't look like seconds quality at all, and was CRAZY cheap.

Yah.... i feel the same way about yellow... just not sure how I feel about sticking out so much in the wilderness. I'm wondering if blending in will make me feel more part of nature, as opposed to a brighter color making me.... apart.

I voted brown just because I like to blend into the environment as much as possible. Although I also see the value of a very bright color for hunting season.

Yellow might not be a great stand-out choice where I hunt (lots of sugar maples) but it would be great if you wanted to stealth...

Most excellent point. Upon reflection, Blaze Orange might not work quite so well among the Aspens out here either.

Looks like Brown might be the best stand-out color.
