    Multi-layerd Under Quilt

So I'm thinking that if I can get bulk down from the supplier near me and I can convince myself that I can sew without killing people I'm considering using a two layered approach for a cocoon style under quilt.

Assume I don't really understand what I'm talking about yet (because I don't):
If a nice Winter UQ is X warmth (fill, thickness, etc) then I'll make TWO that are HALF X. One I can use during the non-Winter months and the second I can add to that for the colder hangs. That lowers the size and weight for Summer.

The first layer would be sort of traditional but the second layer would have to be such that I could easily slide it over the second layer when I get into the hammock and during the night if I get warm. Adjusting the openings on both to control the internal temperature is also important.

This might be as easy as having a sturdy zipper on each with a velcro flap to minimize warmth leakage.

    I'm still thinking.

I think you are thinking too much...why not just make two quilts the same size one would have tie outs to attach to the hammock the other could be added by slipping it between the hammock and the attached quilt. Maybe some tabs of velcro on the edges so they don't slide which I doubt they would anyway. If you get warm open your top cover to cool off. joe

Over engineering is the spice of life! I usually start out over engineering something then backing it down to reality based on time/thought or input from people such as yourself.
