I did a thru hike in 2004 using a HH and a 3/8 in CC pad. I started a bit earlier than you (Feb 27th), but needed the pad the whole way. A CC pad weighs about 10 oz, the lightest theremarest, at the time, weighed twice that. Even during the hottest days, the nights will get down to the high 60s and you'll need insulation under you.

The HH tarp was always adequate. It's smaller than a good tarp, but because of the under side entrance of the HH, it worked very well, even in the hardest wind driven rain, especially when you consider its light weight.

Having said all that, the HH isn't the most comfortable hammock on the market, but far better than sleeping on the ground or inside the shelters on the wood floors.

i hate pads in hammocks. well, i hate anything that will move around & keep me awake! so i prefer more envelope layers where things stay put, perhaps & foil blanket inside but ONLY if it stays in place between the layers.

but then i have had to bivy it (ground) so i was missing the pad THAT time
