My wife tells me that to alleviate the fabric bunching under the foot - use a 'small amount' of tension pulling the fabric out of the back of the machine. She taught me to use my right hand to feed the fabric and pull ever-so-gently with my left hand to keep just 'a touch' of tension on the fabric. Works for her and darned if it didn't work for me when I sewed up my hammock chair out of silnylon. YMMV.
I made mine similarly, only I tapered the foot end and cut about a 45 degree angle off to save some weight and made a small ring cinch on that end, and left the head end open to freely slide the length of the hammock.
the great part about this design is that you can stuff the net into your bishop bag when you dont want to use it.
