    Hammock sleeping with a pistol

I hope this doesnt turn into a hot forum. But I was wondering in what way a person might store his pistol while sleeping in their hammock? I can imagine the shelf on the Black Bird would come in handy, but the pockets hanging above or on the side of a hammock may sag too much from the weight of said pistol. Any ideas out there?

This has been discussed in the past, and such discussions tend to degenerate. Here at HF they tend to be whether firearms are needed for hiking/camping versus pro or anti-gun. But to avoid it all together, I'll refer you to this relatively recent thread:

For me though, either the WBBB shelf or it remains in the pack.

However it gets attached I would want to put towards the end of the "head end" so all I had to do was reach up for it. If you put it one side or the other it may be difficult to reach depending on how you are laying when you wake up. If your holster has a strap on the barrel end you could hook it to the ring at the head end of your hammock and lay it inside where it can be reached.

This idea is in the thread posted above my post. And is better typed. By someone else.

I doubt there is any need to delete. It is a worthy hammock related question. But, there isn't any need to reinvent the wheel...just my .625 Rubles.

My Khar PM9 rides in a Desantis pocket holster. The pistol/holster fits in the little mesh pocket that come with the Hennessy hammock. This sort of topic has been thoroughly discussed here in a very civil manner. Those who don't like or feel the need for a handgun have, heretofore, stayed away from these threads, unlike the knuckleheads over at WB.

Trooper is right...the question is valid. We just have to keep it focused on hammock use, rather than a firearms debate.

Shelf on the Blackbirds, pockets on the Switchback, and stuff sacks on ridgelines if no storage is available. I've just gotten in the habit of carrying my XDm which has both a grip safety and trigger safety, which makes me worry much less about pulling it out of a stuff sack.
