    Spare Suspension / Repair

I was curious after reading a lot of threads about minimal suspensions, if anyone carries spares or repair items in case of failure. I know it probably does not make sense but I was just wondering.

It makes sense to me. I'll carry a spare whoopie sling and a couple 4 foot amsteel "dogbones" to extend my straps in case the trees are really big. Lots of gear you can make do without or improvise if broken but hammock suspension is not one of them IMO.

I think it all depends on the person and the situation. If I were hiking in a remote part of Alaska I would take extra. Most of the time though I'm just car camping so I don't see a need.

I am with Thom here, if I am going to really remote areas I would. Otherwise, I normally carry over sized tree straps and a small length of cord that I can tie/make into anything that I may need in a snap.

I always carry a spare whoopie and strap. I used to carry two of each, but that seemed a bit excessive.

I don't carry any extra suspension. I trust the suspensions I use as I have tested them to destruction. Knowing what it really takes to break a suspension has proved to me that I can't break one in the field. I do pack a few yards of dynaglide for the odd ball time I need to extend and reach a long hang or tweak something.

I carry 1 extra dynaglide woppie sling with a dutch biner which I multi purpose. At the minimal weight of dynaglide woopies it worth it to me in case I forget one around a tree or heavens forbid one snaps on me.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I carry a few feet of extra amsteel, enough to do some emergency repairs, have never had to use it. I check my suspension when I take it down and if it looks worn then I replace it when I get home.

I try to keep some extra hammock suspension and tarp ridgelines ready to go as back up for a trip so if I do find something that does not look up to snuff then I can swap it out on the spot.

I carry one spare dynaglide whoppie. Never had to use it. I carry 2 three foot amsteel loops used to extend my hang distance and when my straps cannot reach around the tree. Used these a bunch of times. For longer trips or when I take multiple family members I will sometimes pack a spare hammock.

I carry a spare whoopee and I don't even use whoopees.
