    DIY UQ complete

So I finally got around to starting and then finishing my underquilt using the 1.1oz olive ripstop I got from sclittlefield, one layer of 6oz Climashield, some black 1.9 oz Joanns ripstop for the end channels (a little sturdier), 7/8" grosgrain ribbon for all the tie outs, and some misc. hardware from OWF and my local camping store.

Final dimensions are 42"x60". Construction was a little rough, as there were a few errors in cutting along the way, it was my first time working with climashield (man that stuff sticks to everything), and I sorted stumbled my way through sewing up the hole I used to turn the whole thing right side out after construction - it's closed, but it's not pretty. Otherwise, turned out roughly the way I wanted, I learned a few things for next time, and now my DIY hammock setup is complete, and as soon as my JRB suspension cords show up in the mail, I finally have everything I need for my first hang.

    Oh, and some pics:
    Completed quilt stretched out flat

These two of the corners show the boxing, to allow for loft.

The reinforced corner tie out, with shockcord from the end channel bowlined to it, and the center point of the end channel, with the cord lock.

Not sure how small it'll compress, cuz I didn't make a stuff sack for it yet. And I still haven't remembered to get a scale, so I don't know how much it weighs, but it feels super light, but still warm.

Looks good, and a really good job on the sewing. I know that it should keep you plenty warm to 20*, so have fun trying it out!

Thanks! I made sure the pics conveniently didn't show the spots that I messed up.

Looks really nice. I like the corner reinforcement stitching - well done. Also, smart move with the bead to keep the shock cord from coming out of the draw cord. Very smart indeed.

Yeah, right now Joann Fabric has all their summer camp crafts out, and they had a pack of camouflage beads. The green bead is a pretty close match for olive drab, so I thought it fitting, and functional.

    Question

Out of curiosity, can anyone that owns an authentic KAQ tell me about how big the stuff sack for it is? Making one is the final touch for this project, and I could experiment, but I hate to waste the fabric.

To make stuff sacks I always just take whatever I made, stuff it in a plastic grocery bag or garbage bag, try to compress it into the level of compressed-ness that I want, and then measure. Use those dimensions plus seam allowance to make your stuff sack

My KAQ Lost river's stuff sack's dimensions:

Just shy of 12" wide x 18" long, when laid out flat... The quilt is far from overstuffed in that sack.
