    Hammock-friendly List?

Just wondering if it would be useful for HF members to post the hammock-friendly parks, campgrounds, and sites they find. The list could "sticky'd" and maybe be a useful resource for those of us who travel about.

I don't know how to start a poll on this, or I would.

    Waddya think?

    My first contribution:

    Lost River Valley Campground
    Rte 112
    No. Woodstock, NH

    Wooded, brook side sites.

Heck it would be nice to have a forum, then a sub-forum for each state, providence, etc.

The best way to do this would probably be by somebody creating a Google Document that could be edited by any user. Then people could add or update 'good' sites. Somebody just needs to volunteer to build it.

Maybe someone could start another Google Map with the locations, and a moderator could edit the original post with a link.

I get the impression that hammock camping is in an exponential growth phase. As the baby boomers age and find that hammocking is a fun and comfortable way to extend one's camping career, I suspect it will continue to grow fast for several more years.

Rather than trying to identify those sites where hammocking is accepted, why not combine our talents and influence to expand the number of jurisdictions where hammocking is not only allowed, but even welcomed?

The Forums could take a formal position advocating hammock hanging at all suitable locations. Educational material could be developed to use to persuade given locations or agencies to modify their regulations. In areas without trees or other structures to hang on, we could promote the installation of facilities to allow hanging. (Installation of hammock-hanging posts at tree-barren state parks, for example, might be a good Eagle scout project.)

Studies could be performed to assess and document harm, if any, inflicted upon trees by different hanging systems. The Forums could develop minimum standards for any system used to suspend from a tree.

There are a lot of energetic, passionate, and intelligent people herein whose skills could be ideally tailored to such an endeavor.

====> Why not do both? The list would be the fastest to put together to get it started. Materials and testing, and lobbying efforts could take a longer time to develop. So in the meantime, having an easily accessible travel reference might be appreciated by the members.
