Is there a walkthrough on how to make the sling with the 7/64 Amsteel??
I saw the stick with the DIY Whoopie using the 1/8 Amsteel but thought that I may want to use the smaller diameter to save some cash and a little weight.
Thanks!!

Process is the same, just 2 less strands to deal with. 1/8 is 12 strand while 7/64 is 8.
Techinically you can use slightly less bury on the 7/64 too... But IMO its not worth worrying about.
Thanks for the quick reply!!
Also, why do I see one walkthrough having some strands cut in the line and another that doesn't seem to cut any strands??
You need to taper the bury for the fixed eye.. On the tail of the adjustable eye all you need is a knot or backsplice, no taper needed.
I know on most of my tutorials I simply note that you need to taper, rather than showing it. There are already several posts showing how to taper....
I never, ever bother to taper. I'm just cool like that
Samson's instructions say to leave the tail at full volume and just cut the end at an angle. I'm guessing that's because the exit of the adjustable tail is where the whoopie is weakest and the taper doesn't matter.
I actually have an e-mail in to Samson to confirm my suspicion but haven't heard back yet. The only reason I can see to taper is for the aesthetics of the splice. IMHO, a tapered bury looks much nicer but I haven't bothered to taper on my whoopies due to laziness efficiency.
I used to tape the line to a short knitting needle and thread it through and it was a pain. Since then I saw a post about using wire and got some old tie-wire (like you'd use for rebar) and folded it into a long U shape. I used pliers to crimp the bend down hard. Now I can thread the wire through the center and push it out where I want the bury to start, I slide the end of the line between the two halves of the wire and the crimp in the fold kind of pinches the line. I've had no trouble at all pulling it back through using this wire. I've done 7/64ths Amsteel as well as Dynaglide.
Anyway, maybe this'll help someone.
