Poncho Liner top quilt

Just wondering if anyone has made a top quilt using a poncho liner? If you have how did you do it? I have a poncho liner and I want to use it for a summer top quilt. The 20* synthetic sleeping bag is just to much for summer. Any ideas would be great.
My plan was to sew a 1/2" channel on one end for footbox, then sew up one side. Does this sound like it would work? Of course the channel will be for shockcord to close off the footbox and to open for ventilation.

I sleep in a hammock every night indoors or out. All I do is get in and pull the poncho liner over me. No need to over engineer it.

Well I took your suggestion on not over engineering it. I stiil wanted to have a footbox like all the manufactured top quilts. So I gathered one end like a gathered hammock and tied it off using the ties already attached to the liner. I even tied off one of the ties on the side. Will try to get pics later and post them.

Yes and no. A lot of use figured out a long time ago that a poncho liner was a "boat anchor" compared to other alternatives. You can make a top quilt out of 2 oz climashield and it'll weigh about the same, cost about the same (the materials) and be about three times as warm.

Yes climashield would work, but not as cheap as the poncho liner. I already had the poncho liner from my poncho/liner UQ I used to use til I made a better UQ out of a children's sleeping bag. I just used the materials I had instead of spending money I don't have right now.

I love my DIY poncho Liner with a sewn in foot box as a top quilt. I can't remember exactly how I made it but I know that I have sewn the bottom closed and I have also sewn up about a foot or a foot and a half to create the box. I move around a lot at night and with the footbox the poncho liner has never come off of me or uncovered my feet.

Is it something that can be purchased localy or is it an online order thing?
Is climashield any where near as soft as a poncho liner? I really like the feel of my poncho liner top quilt.

It's cheap, because, like a lot of us, you already have it. If you can score some Walmart DWR for $1.50/yd and order three yards of Climashield:

You won't have much more, if any, than a poncho liner, except your time.
