    sil-tyvek?

anybody ever give thought to silicone impregnated tyvek? of course youd have to wash it first to soften it up, im not sure if it would even bond. ive seen some of the diy silicone jobs on nylon on youtube....anybody try this? seems like it would toughen it, quieten it, and make it super waterproof.

Because tyvek is a non woven fabric created with heat and pressure im not sure how easy it would be to impregante it. But a coating would do well im sure. I am just about to head off on a month long trip but once Im back I am planning to do some tinkering with various sil sprays on the Kite (1443 R) tyvek I have used a lot.

You get my vote for lateral thinker of the week!

I like it...Tyvek is good, but for me, not quite waterproof enough-this may solve the problem.

I don't think you would save any weight over silnylon. Would try on a scrap piece before jumping on that project. Silnylon would be less bulky too.
