    Adjustable Ridgeline???

So I made an adjustable Ridgeline out of 2.2 mm lash it/zing it. Put it on my hammock and tested it out. Im kinda confused about the benefits of it. I used the same trees in my yard as I usually do and couldent get as comfortable as lay. I have it set at ten inches like the orginal BB ridgeline with a some give each way. What are the benefits of an adjustable ridgeline? Does it just allow you to pull it tighter without adjusting your suspension system? Any input would be helpful. Im leaving for the LT monday and cant decide if I want the adjustable or non adjustable ridgeline on the WBBB

An adustable ridgeline is handy when you're looking for just the right amount of sag for a new hammock initially. But once you find your comfort zone, it becomes less useful.

A non-adjustable ridgeline of the correct length is fine. If it isn't near taut, it's a sign that you didn't hang the hammock correctly.

AAHH that makes a lot of sense. Once you find your comfort length of ridgeline, in theory you could make a fixed one that same lenght and it would be no different? I thought it allowed you to adjust it each time depending on the hang...Thanks Angry Sparow

The idea behind the RL is that no matter the distance between the trees, you get the same amount of sag. The adjustable RL is geared more for folks who havent yet found their ideal length. You dont adjust the RL everytime you set-up once youve found your sweet spot.

And yes... Once youve found your ideal length, make a fixed one. I had a formula to add in the length of the buries and loops to come out to the exact measurement... BUt have since forgotten it. Maybe Ive got it written down somewhere.

Is zing-it/lash-it strong enough to use for the RL? I assume we're talking a Structural RL here, yes?
    Good luck,

Sure is. I use the 1.75 variety on the ones I sell.

I was wondering this exact thing -- seems to me that you can lock it in once you've figured out your ideal length. I made mine out of amsteel in the whoopie fashion... mostly because I love the stuff, but also because the structural ridgeline is technically non-critical, it gives me all of that extra strong rope with me on the trip as a backup for other, more critical, load-baring lines.

So far I have found that my sag prefs still waver about 5" depending on my mood... so even once I have it really dialed in I may keep it adjustable for variety sake.

    .

I'm still a little hazy on this adjustable SRL (I believe). I have the "stock" length of SRL on my HH, but it might be possible to get a little better (flatter lie) if I were to shorten the SRL length (sag)?

    .
Yes a shorter SRL will give you more sag and allow a flatter lie (lying asymetrically).

    Adjustable RL

Per AngrySparrow's comment, one adjustable rl is great for your sock drawer. Break it out when you get a new hammock, set it, make a nonadjustable rl the set length, and back to the sock drawer with it.
