    Reviving an old thread, but thought it might help others that haven't seen this.

    To ward off the hordes of bugs on my hammock and tarp this weekend, I sprayed both with 29% DEET spray.

    Big mistake!

    The hammock body seems fine, but when I sprayed the little tarp on my Hennessy the spray globed up into sticky drops. I just washed it off and noticed the waterproof coating appears to be coming off. It is only happening where the spray formed big sticky drops.

    I wish I had read this thread earlier. Do not use DEET on nylon fabrics.

    Sorry to hear about that mistake. Now you know better than most of us, through personal experience. Glad it wasn't 90-100% DEET.

    If you use anything on your hammock, I recommend permitherin. It works great with no negative side effects.
