I found a store that sells 1.25% spray for home and gardens around the GTA. Don't know how effective it would be on clothes.

I was considering the same thing, maybe a weekend camping but that will likely have to wait until after bug season starts.

If you do go and want to take orders....

BIG SIGH - I called Urban Nature because the product listing doesn't show manufacturer nor an inert ingredient list. The answer - they kindly checked with the manufacturer who says that under Canadian law they don't have to disclose non-active ingredients and won't and that they absolutely DO NOT recommend the product for use on clothing!!

Sucks big time, I thought I'd finally found a permethrin product in Canada.

If anyone who lives close to one of their stores wants to try it out on a scrap of fabric like ripstop or sil, please note that this is 1 1/2 times as strong as Sawyer's so it needs to be diluted further than any instructions on the container.

Have any of you in Canada looked at the 10% permethrin livestock treatments? You'd have to double check other ingredients, but you should be able to find it locally and dilute it to the 0.5%.

The earlier posts about the military soak was a big issue with me as your sweat will re-wet the product and due to capillary action will draw the product into the skin, and the result is an itch that keeps on giving for a week or two. Sawyer is a spray you apply it to the outside of the garment or hammock - thus reducing the contact with the skin... make sure you are using a good face /valve mask and gloves when it is in liquid form.
That is not entirely correct. Sawyer markets a military style soak kit.

We have been looking at this, here they sell a product called ultrashield xl it is a fly spray for horses here is the msds data

    http://www.horse.com/ContentFiles/As...ieldexmsds.pdf

now here is the sawyer msds sheet

    http://www.sawyer.com/msds/MSDS%20SP...20S-PTR-02.pdf

now looking at these they appear the same except the ultrashield has Piperonylbutoxide (a) which is a enhanser. the ultrashield has more alcohol,

i am very tempted to try this on clothing, if i do i will let it dry then wash them to get rid of the citronella smell,

    comments anyone ?

Looks pretty good to me. I don't really know why the isopropyl alcohol is in there, maybe drys faster. It looks like the permethrin/piperonylbutoxide is a common mix in lice shampoo. My one thought is that the piperonylbutoxide effects the cytochrome P540 enzyme. There are a ton of medications that are metabolized by that family of enzymes. It looks like you'd need several mg/kg orally for it to make a difference though. The lice stuff has 4% vs 1% here and I didn't see much in the way of warnings on it. Still, if you're on meds it wouldn't hurt to give your Dr a quick call.

After I posted here earlier today I called Urban Nature HO -we'd been leaving voicemails for each other... and spoke with a CSR there. We had quite a chat about Sawyer fabric treatments and she now knows a whole lot more than before...

I should know within a day or so whether they're willing and able to bring Sawyers fabric treatment in and stock it.

    Cross your fingers!!

Personally, I'm not willing to take my chances with all the inert ingredients that don't have to be identified in the 'farm use' products. I've put too much effort and money into all the new gear. Besides, I can't get out to even seam seal my new tarp until spring actually gets this far north so it's not like I have to have an answer today!!

if you look at sawyer it is the exact same 98% and it says NA so its the same as inert ingrediants under law they have to disclose if it is a harmful chem, i got lucky and found a bottle of sawyers 24oz , i'm picing it up friday asking them to get more we'll see
