On a recent Alaskan trip ( state bird: Mossy) I did have my baseball cap that had been sprayed with Permethrin, but nothing else. We would hit some spots that had a lot of Mosquitos. None came near my head/neck, unlike the other folks. We had some DEET wipes, which were occasionally used. One day on a hike ( on mostly rocky slopes, no standing water and little vegetation) I failed to use the DEET, though I was wearing my hat. When I got back that night, I found several bites on my forearms and hands. Dang! I never even saw the sneaky blood suckers, except for one that I killed just as she was biting me! But nothing on my face or neck.

Dried Permethrin on clothing can be very handy compared to West Nile. etc. I do wish I had brought my Picariden, which has become my agent of choice for applying to skin for when I don't have enough clothing treated with Permethrin.

But the good news is that Alaskan mossies, believe it or not, carry little to no diseases. That's what a lot of folks say, anyway!

I've bought the Tractor Supply Permethrin-10. 8 oz. There are dilutions in the directions for sheep, horses, dogs, house, etc. but nothing for clothing. How much should I dilute this to treat my clothes and hammock?

If it's 10%, then it's 20 times more than the recommended 0.5% solutions. Dilute 20:1. Remember, you are not using the product as designed so proceed at own risk.

My exposed skin will not be smeared with DEET because that stuff dissolves plastic and that's just creepy. Instead, I'll be wearing 100% organic Badger Anti-Bug Balm because it's non-toxic just like permethrin and makes me smell fruity!

Any issues with Bears thinking you are lunch useing Badgers????

I work in an Urgent Care clinic and prescribe Permethrin 5% as a chin to toe application to be left on the skin for 8-10 hours before showering. This applies to both adults and pediatrics. The permethrin sold at farm/ag stores for dogs and horses runs from 20-30%.
Do some research and decide for yourself.

OK guys I work in the Pesticide business! First Permethrin is Not non-toxic it is a pesticide! The stuff you buy in the outdoor stores is micro encapsulated this means it breaks down or releases slowly over time. That is why it last so long on you clothes and gear plus it will also not absorb in to your skin as fast the stuff from tractor supply. The horse, sheep stuff is NOT designed for treating your clothes or camping gear and is a bad Idea! You could slowly poison your self. Not to say it wont work it will. If you are only using you gear for the weekend once and a while you should be fine. I would just hate to see some one through hiking, for lets say the hole summer take a chance using a pesticide that was not designed to be used in the manner they where using it.....Just my highly trained 2 cents! Take it or leave it!
