    New Guy Here

hi all. i am new to all this stuff but think it is just awesome. I am currently a tent camper but would really like to switch over to hammock. Pretty much what got me hooked was watching all of Shug's videos on youtube (and carrying a heavy tent around). I have an ENO doublenest which I really like but have no tarp yet. I use the slapstraps but man do those things stretch. I was thinking of switching over and trying a whoopie sling suspension. I have a kelty light year 20 degree sleeping bag which I really like. I figured that would be fine as far as a top quilt goes. Not really sure where to start when it comes to an under quilt however. anyways thats all I have now. Ill be on these forums often cause I have a lot to learn

    Welcome to HF!

    Definitely recommend the whoopie slings.

Re: the underquilt, best advice is to buy right the first time. Beyond that, it all depends on what you're looking for. Personally, I like partial UQs b/c I also like to have a CCF torso-sized pad.

Kevin welcome, Depending on what kinda money you want to spend is the question you should ask yourself.
If your tent has a rain fly well if its large enough use it. you can get a G.I. poncho liner for around 15 bucks UQ, I asuming you already have a pad. Bro your set to try Swinging in the breeze.
You should really try it out first its not for everyone. I guess some just dont like comfort. lol
I myself use no UQ in the summer I find my 20 degree wiggys bag is enough, fall and spring I use my poncho liner with my 20 degree bag, when it gets cold I use my wiggys over bag then use my 20 degree bag and ponco liner to sleep in.
I am old miltary guy so I am used to being cold wet tired and hungry all at the same time. My advice it just play around and find what works for you. Hell thats the fun part, telling stories or how your butt stuck to your hammock it was so cold in JULY. Have fun and welcome.

MAke thatWelcome to the fourms! We are glad to have you join us. The selection of tarps and under quilts are an on going discussion here. Take a look at the taps and bottom insulation sections. You will find much good information there. Which will help you narrow down your search. From there you can ask some more specific quaestions and get some good input from the membership.
