    Alternative to no-seeum?

Hello all, Kinda just thinkin out loud here.. Is there an alternative bug screening now a day's that is not as tight as the no see um?
Some nights when I zip up my Black bird, it is very noticeably harder to breath.
but being here in Mich. the netting is an absolute must for sure. Have seen the alternative fan set up, that is pretty cool... But I see a traveler in my future and would like to lean towards a looser screen mesh for those occasions..
    Thank you for any input....

Standard mosquito netting has fewer holes/inch2 than NoSeeUm. It will allow more airflow. It can be a bit harder to find than NoSeeUm in the circles we run on material distributors, as it's not as high in demand - but there are places to buy it. Try a search.

Scott's right about mosquito netting being noticeably cooler. In many parts of the country you just don't need as tight a weave as noseeum netting has.

I don't have personal experience with them, but many people have recommended Vermont's Army Navy as a good reliable source for mosquito netting.

You folks are awesome!! Thanx.. I know I need the noseeum in the woods, but in my back yard it is only the dreaded mosquito I am dealing with..
So it would be nice to have the best of both worlds..

I have had good experiences going to the store in person. I have not ordered from them online but have also heard good things about their online store, since I think that's where they do the majority of their business these days.

I've been using two sheets of this and it has worked out well:

I just picked up some netting material from the local fabric store, I think it was called tulle. It is a little tighter weave, but seems a lot more durable, plus it is black and was on sale!

tulle pr chiffon has been successfully substituted for bug net. Both are available in a small range of grid size but should be easily found in any fabric store that carries items for wedding gowns and prom dresses. Tulle is stiffer than chiffon and is used for veils and structural decorations on dresses. However it does soften if prewashed and/or repeatedly crumpled. Chiffon is very soft and can be somewhat droopy if it is not titted right.

How about some Permethrin spray/soak on your hammock and most of your clothing, including a hat you can sleep in? That stuff is like a force field. Maybe with some 15-20% Picariden ( or even DEET) on any exposed skin and maybe even a head net if needed?
