ENO dryfly

Greetings to all, I've been hanging for about six months and have recently ordered the eagles nest outfitters dryfly from sportmans guide. I was wondering if anyone has used it in the past with any success. I'm hoping i didnt make some sort of mistake since it seams that no one has mentioned anything about it. It seams to have a similar design as the new speer fly with less stake points. I think the two ends at the foot and head can be brought together to help with rain protecion let me know what you guys think. thanks

btw I have a hh exped asym, and i do realize the tarp is on the heavy side but the coverage it offers seams worth it to me

Hooch owns the Eno Dryfly. I think he said that the coverage that the tarp gives is not the best. He can elaborate more.

I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about the ENO tarps. Hooch has a pic of one in his gallery. Maybe he can give you an informed opinion.

Hi Lunchbox,

The ENO dryfly is a nice looking tarp. I am sure it will work great for you. I have an ENO Double Eaglesnest hammock and I looked at that tarp too.

I bought a Kelty Noah 9 tarp primarily because of price. It too is on the heavy side. http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/st...0226&langId=-1

My wife sews very well, so am hoping she will make a Black Cat tarp. I am putting togther 3 hammock rigs for my wife, daughter and I to go out sometime for a hang. I plan on 3 different rigs to try a variety out. <G>

can't speak from direct experience w/ that tarp, but looking at the pictures & looking at one in person, i would have to wonder about the lack of coverage (wind & rain) w/ those deep cat cuts.
looks nice though.

Thanks for all the feed back. The opinions seem varied so I guess I'll have to wait till I can put it to the test. Blasted sportmans guide sometimes takes forever!

Ok, since I've been called out

by parties who shall remain anonymous

(Headchange, Angrysparrow), I'll tell ya what I know and what I think. Please be forewarned that one may or may not be able to distinguish one from the other. So here goes: I have 2 ENO DryFly rain tarps, one for my son and the other for myself. It's a fair tarp, but if I had to give criticism to anything, first would be coverage. It's lateral coverage isn't the best. Ideally, I'd like to see it at least about 18 inches wider or so on each side. It'll do if you don't have heavy, windblown rain but if you do, you're SOL. Personally, I haven't had to use it in conditions as such. Secondly, I'd give the DryFly low marks on its weight. For the minimal amount of coverage it provides, it could be much lighter. But ENO uses a heavier material than sil, so that keeps costs low and profit up, so it makes sense to me why they'd do it that way. If you're car camping, not backpacking in far, don't have very heavy rains and don't mind carrying the extra weight or are on a budget, then it's a fair investment to start with. But, since it runs about $80 +/-, one might be better served to spend/save up a few extra bucks and get a MacCat Standard, which is only about $15 more. Hindsight being 20/20, that's what I would have done had I known about the MacCat tarps before I got my 2 DryFlys. And that's all I got to say about that.

Another thanks is in order to you guys, especially you hooch. I cancelled the order for the dryfly today because i want something dependable considering the fact that i like to go out in all conditions and plan to do a thru on the AT in the next two years. Either way i dont feel like being wet in the middle of nowhere on top of taking a weight penalty. You guys are all life, and wallet savers, haha. Ill most likley go for the mac cat standard as it seams to be the most consistent choice with you seasoned hangers.
