    are hammocks hot

I just found out about jungle hammocks this week. One question I have that I can't find the answer to is....are the hammocks hot? More so than a tent for summer camping.

Complete opposite. In fact, on nights where you'd be hot in a tent, you may actually be chilled in a hammock. Air moving around from below convects heat away from your body. Indeed, one of the pillars of this website is the quest to slow down or prevent this phenomena.

Hammocks aren't hot, but mosquito netting is.

Rare is the night when you won't need at least some insulation under you...it may only be a blanket, but you'll be glad you have it.

One thing I've noticed with my Warbonnet Blackbird, the bug net can inhibit airflow into the hammock, which may give you that claustrophobic lack-of-air feeling. A simple cure is an inexpensive battery-powered fan hanging from your ridge line. As for being hot underneath---that will never happen. Even on a warm summer evening your back will feel cool. In the summer I will always carry either a pad or a light blanket to put under me and a light blanket to put over me to keep that chill off. The nylon fabric also has a cooling effect.
Proving to the world that I can hang.

Sleeping in a hammock is comfortable no matter what the season. In the summer they are cool. In the cool to cold weather with the proper insluation you can be warm as toast.
