    two tarps over hammock

I would like to have a larger tarp to cover my HH asym but dont want to remove the standard fly because everything fits so nicely and convenient when rolled into snakeskins. I would like to have the second tarp available to put over the HH tarp for added protection from the elements if needed. Is it silly to have one larger tarp over the smaller standard HH tarp?

I can't see any advantages with two tarps. Maybe the HH hexfly would suit both of your purposes.

I carry a 2nd small tarp to put up over the foot end of my HHammock to supplement the HH tarp if it rains.

Doesn't matter if it's convenient or not, the standard tarps are just plain lousy.

Two tarps don't make sense to me. Wouldn't it be better to just replace the smaller tarp with a larger one?

Two tarps dont make it right. Or is that two wrongs?

That's what I did for a while. I had picked up a small tarp at a REI scratch and dent sale for almost nothing. So I carried them both for a while just for better coverage if I need it. Now I have a Sportsman Guide 9x9 (Neo Tarp) and just carry it. I might also share an inexpensive way to get a tarp or possible hammock material. My wife and I camp in campgrounds (mostly state parks) with a small travel trailer. At least twice in the last year I have found tents and or tarps discarded, left for the trash pickup. Some have been beyond use but others have been in good shape. I guess the camping experience was not what they thought it would be and they just got rid of the camping stuff. In one case not only was the tent left but the new box and sales receipt where they had just bought it at Wally World was thrown away as well. So check out campgrounds at the end of weekends you never know what you will find. tnhillbilly

No reason not to if you want to try the idea out...setup time will increase, and the weight will be different...try the idea, if it's to much hassle that will be readily apparent.

I use one tarp, but it's HUGE, 10 X 10.....covers me well, and the snakeskins only cover the Hammock, not the Tarp AND. (keep the hammock in the skins until ready to crash, it frees up all the space under that large tarp for cooking and packing up in the rain) the tarp is the last thing to come down, and can be rolled and stored on top of the pack as the first thing up when setting up camp in the rain, or providing cover for mid-day stops in rain OR sun.

Personally, I don't see a point to 2 tarps. If one is larger than the other, then it just covers the smaller tarp, so why even bother taking it? A larger tarp can have snakeskins, too. The folks at HH make them in a few different sizes if I'm not mistaken. If it were my hammock setup (And it's not), I'd go with the larger tarp just for better protection from the elements.
