Help me plan a 3 day trip to Linville Gorge

Looking for suggestions on which trails to do fo a 3 day backpacking trip in the Gorge. Loop or point to point. I have not been there since I was in my mid teens and would like to take a trip there in the near future. I know quite of few of the community do regular trips there... What would you do?
    Thanks in advance

Oh... so many options. A few questions first.

Are you pretty good at using a map & compass & comparing the trails you're on to what's on the map when there are few or no signs?
Have you got your pack weight down fairly light?
Have you spent much time hiking rugged, steep, up & down trails?
Will you be hiking w/ someone else who can leave a car at point B?
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Don't think in miles on a Gorge trip. They don't matter and they are "as the crow flies".
Do the loop from Spence Ridge Trailhead ...make sure to take the little Table Rock trail for some up-hill fun .... continue south past Table rock on down all the way across Short-off Mountain. Cross river and head up Mountain to Sea trail. Options here: continue on up to Spence Bridge and head back up to trailhead and walk to Hawksbill. Or ..... after river crossing go 3 miles to Pinchin ....climb that to top .... head north on road a wee bit and take Rock Jock trail. I highly recommend the Rock Jock. Hickery and I camped up there in a big thunder storm. There is a site between two rock cairns we made up there just past Razor Edge rock if coming from the south. Awesome spot. Two guys can find hang spots if your crafty. You will end up at Conely Cove. Go down Conely Cove Trail and go north. Don't miss Cathederal Falls. Steep short trail down to river. Hang spots there. Be careful of rising river if wet weather.
****Cross or pass Spence Bridge and head up to Babel tower. Double back. Go back up Spence Ridge Trail to trailhead. Lick wounds.
You will have a terrific time no matter where you go!!!!!!
The Gorge awaits you. It told me so.

It will be me and My brother (Squatty). I am good with map and compass but it has been a bit since I have done much orienteering( need to brush up on that a bit). Pack weight dry is around 16-18 lbs so I believe I am pretty light there. Have done quite a few up and downs so not really worried bout tht part. Open to any suggestions

    @Shug, I like that hike

The loop that most of us did back in May was kinda like what Shug suggested, but with out the extra trails thrown in (Little Table Rock, Rock Jock, Etc)
Most of us said that if we did that loop again, we would like to do it in three nights instead of two. Some of us were there three nights, but one day was a Zero Day.
You might want to just do that loop & see how it goes. Then if you are doing well, you can always add in extras, like the Rock Jock Trail.
If you hike like StormCrow, you may want to throw in a few extra trails
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Thanks for the info. This trip will be at the beginning of October.. Recently went back to school for more classes in computer network management and only get one weekend every 9 weeks where I don't have any school to worry about. I have my next trip planned so I'm starting my planning on the one after. I spend way more time planning than I do on trail, but tha's part of the fun for me.

Shug (and/or Hawk-eye) as much as you like doing the video's I'm as much if not more into photography. So any "pro" tips on where's the best spots. We hope to do this trip at the peak of the fall color so I'm hoping to get some good photos of the georges and the fall color. There's so much there from what I've seen that I don't think I'll have any trouble finding something to photograph.

This is one area I haven't been to. My scout troop never went there so I'm sort of looking forward to doing this.

    Thanks

    Scott

As long as he doesn't fall and hurt something again then we'll be just fine.

My first love is my trusty Nikon ... you can't go wrong anywhere in the gorge. Follow my Flickr Link below for a bunch of set of Linville gorge.

You can burn up some batteries and SD cards in our Big Ditch!
