    Picking up a machine tonight

This is a very slippery slope. I have tinkering with gear since my army days. Now it could get serious. So what are some of the first things I should try? I am thinking stuff sacks and a DIY hammock.

It is a Brother, found it on Craigslist. That is all I know. Took a sewing class in 8th grade and hope I can remember some stuff I am kind of excited.- George

I _just_ posted a thread that addresses these questions.

    "Important Thread Injector guidelines...."
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

Around my house, with 1 professional seamstress and one gearmaker the slogan is quite the reverse.. YOU rip what YOU sew. No longer can I plead ignorance or inability.

My diy sewing project progression was:

    1. Stuff sack - pitiful first attempted (destroyed evidence before anyone saw results)
    2. Stuff sack - better, messed up finished diameter but looked much better.
    3. Jerry Chair - Solid & functional, sloppy stitching. Was using 78 wt poly thread
    4. Stuff sack - Switched to 40 wt thread! - looks good, right size!
    5. DIY hammock - Knotty's directions in the DIY section
    6. Summer weight IX TQ - Underway, results tbd...

I bought my machine last month and have spent 3 weeks playing on the above items. My advise - buy some cheap WM $1.50 ripstop and start playing around. Its fun and satisfying to MYOG. Best of success.
