curious why the question about fur animals-dogs/cats.
I'll tell you why. I've got cats and for some reason one of the cats hosed down a backpack. Later I'm in the woods with that cat pee smelling pack and a ranger comes along to check my backcountry permit...I apologize for the small as he looks at the permit on the backpack...he says good insurance against bears, that a bear can't tell the difference between house cat pee and mountain lion pee and that bears don't like to be around big cats any more than big cats like to be around bears....hmmmm.

MM, that's an interesting post.

Btw lots of old home remedies for getting cat pee scent out of fabric. An enzyme deodorant spray called 'Nature's Miracle' available at PetSmart, Petco etc seems to work well also.

1)Maybe 6x.

2)None of the above. However, there is a small (1-2 inch---see picture) piece of trim on top of the stretch pocket where the threads pulled loose. Easily sewn. Other than this one small thing, it's excellent and with all that's included it's still a great deal.

Regarding no fur animals : Domestic animals like to curl up near our gear when we set them out to leave or arrive home. That is understandable.

Years ago, our 20+ year old cat pissed into my large camera bag.
An expensive camera never worked the same again.

Regarding no fur animals.
Hiking mainly in spring and fall, allergy seasons, makes a difficult combination if a few
fur+dander particles show up.
Winter no problem.
