    Mixinmaster,

Although I have not "had" to, I can definitely say that the GG pad could comfortably be used on the ground. It is wide enough that if you fold it in half (as I do when packing it), you get double the thickness and--for me, at least--an adequate amount of width. I'm 6' tall, so it is not a full length pad, but if that bothers you, you can always put your pack or some clothing underneath your delicate little calves.

SGT Rock just finished building a warbonnet hammock stand for us so that we can do testing here at home (since we don't have adequate trees in the yard). When he saw these stands at Trail Days this year he fell in love I have to admit and has been talking about making one ever since.

I'm posting some pics in my gallery of the project. I think it turned out quite cool! Thanks warbonnet for sharing the plans online!

Howdy all. I just built a Warbonnet hammock stand for testing in the yard since I don't have a good set of trees here. It took about 1 hour to make and about $70 in hardware and lumber. I did make a couple of changes on it to make it easy to fold up and take to places like Trail Days or Hammock events. I can start making them for you at about $100 each LOL

That's a nice stand. I am impressed. Any chance of getting some dimensions and construction details?

I'll try to do the simple explain thing. I got the dimensions from here (sort of): http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...6&postcount=40

    Here is my material list:

    2 each heavy gate hinges
    16 each - 2" lag screws
    4 each - 8" bolts
    2 each - 6" bolts
    12 each flat washers
    6 each nuts for bolts
    2 each I bolts
    3 each - 8' 2x4 treated lumber
    2 each - 10' 4x4 treated lumber

Step 1: Cut the 2x4s in half to make 6 each - 4' boards.

Step 2: Cut one of the 4x4s in half to make 2 each - 5' posts.

Step 3: Cut the ends of the remaining 10' 4x4 to create a 62 degree angle on the end.

Step 4: using 2" lag screws, connect the hinges to the 10' 4x4.

Step 5: using 2" lag screws connect the two 5' 4x4 posts to the hinges mounted on the 10' 4x4.

Step 6: Drill bolt holes in the ends of 4 each 4' 2x4s.

Step 7: line these pieces up on the 4x4 posts and main beam to drill the bolt holes. Bolt the assemby together.

Step 8: Line the feet up so that the 2x4s for the posts line up and hold the feet in place when they are all in the correct position. Drill the hole through the main 4x4 and the feet.

Step 9: Bolt the feet into place.

Step 10: screw the I bolts into the 4x4 posts.

That should do it. It took me an hour and I wasn't working hard and I was trying to figure out what worked best on the fly.

I don't know about under the SS pad, but TeeDee used to rave about th GG pads ON TOP of the SS pad. I believe 2 GG pads in a "T" configuration. He seemed real pleased with that well into the teens. If you search my posts on Super Shelter, here and on whiteblaze, you should find a ton on various ways to extend the range. It's pretty easy to do, actually.
If you can't find it and want more specifics, let me know and I'll post the details. Or you can PM me.

Help a newbie out guys...an SS pad would be a Henessy Super Shelter open cell pad, installed UNDER the hammock? The GG pad is the Gosamer Gear I gather. I'm pretty sure the Oware pad comes from Oware, I figured that one out.
