The pie irons are useful in many aspects,I,ll throw em in the car.I was hiking up to Mt.Mitchell once from around Black Mt.campground when I encountered a group of Boyscouts running down trail screaming like they had just killed a horse in Dean Wormers office. They had just seen a bear and two cubs. That was great!

I'm not sure if I can get the whole weekend free. If your Friday night camp site is firm, I may do Sterling Gap to Big Creek. That way I could meet up Friday night at camp and then do the long downhill to Big Creek.

One week to go!! Can't tell that I'm psyched about this trip can ya'?

It's been over a year since I've been to the Smokies and I can hear 'em calling.

Lions, tigers and bears I'm ok with. You bring the outfit from your avatar...that concerns me...unless we find ourselves fending off the occasional ork.

I just love his heart. Though short in stature, his heart is huge. I'd want him on my side in any battle, be it lions, tigers, or bears.

I've been keeping an eye on the GSMNP pages for bear activity and will begin calling the ranger station Monday for 'up-to-the-minute' reports on bear activity.

I'm actually going to be wearing my Clockwork Orange outfit. I thought the Bola would be a nice touch in bear country. Besides, Alex is definitely bear savvy.

    Latest update

I've spoken with Hickery, Cookie & Running Feather and we're all going to meet at the Cataloochee trailhead on Thursday late afternoon/early evening.
This way we get a good early start on Friday, plus an extra night in the Smokies!!

    Directions to the Cataloochee trailhead.......

From Interstate 40, take NC exit 20 onto route 276, turn right onto Cove Creek rd.(old nc284) Follow the signs for 15.7 miles to Little Cataloochee trailhead.

Hickery... don't forget to bring those pie irons. We'll need 'em for the Spam sandwiches Thursday night.
Anyone else interested in coming please send me a PM, that way I'll know how many packs of Spam to bring!!
