I was thinking about buying a few yards of some mesh material from the fabric section in Walmart to mess around with.

I used some tulle from Wal-Mart to prototype and it has worked so well I never bought the real bug mesh.

I've always wondered if that would work! Too bad wal-mart doesn't sell fabric anymore...

It was very easy to run to WM and pick up some 1or2 $ fabric. We have a fabric store in town but it's across town and they never have anything good.

I opted for tulle as well and I couldn't be happier with it. Weighs nothing and it's a lot more durable than I thought it would be. I think I paid 67 cents a yard (60" wide). The black is so transparent I spent a good bit of time second-guessing that it was actually covering everywhere.

I saw a netting type material that had what I thought were larger than needed holes. It was on the cheap rack. Would this be the same stuff? Holes were about 1/16 of an inch.

I believe tulle comes in a variety of types, but the material I got had a finer mesh than most bug netting that I've seen. Just eyeballing it, it is decidedly smaller than the netting of an inexpensive Coughlan's bug net or something of that type.

I'm learning all sorts of new (sewing and fabric related) words here on Hammock Forums!
