Pardon me if I have already posted this, but darned if I am able to locate the post. Must be getting forgetful.

When I converted my HH from line to webbing via AHE buckles with Chain links I arranged the links so that the bury/splice was part of the exposed loop. I reasoned that the splice should be under tension.

My question is: Is it acceptable to have the bury/splice run over the edge of a buckle (or 'biner, ring, sling)? Does that reduce the strength of the splice?

This is more of an acedemic question - I do not intend to place a splice under this condition.

I have loops I made securing my cinchbuckles and the bury goes through and folds over the edges the buckles. Like you I thought the tension would add to the constricition. Have had no issues so far. Interested to see others responses.

i keep my buries/splices exposed. the way i figure it should be under strait line tension, but thats really just how i feel and is not based on any empirical evidence.

I would say it's not acceptable, but I do it occassionally.

One example where my buried portion is loaded/bent in the bury is a ring, (or circle). The way I make them, the entire circle encloses the bury, so I have a double thickness of line throughout. Anywhere it is loaded, it will be loading on the buried portion.
