Me too, I sized it around my size 13, 4E wide stompers...

We'll see about condensation in the footbox. Now I need to get out and test this sucker.

We've found that lining the IX TQ below the thighs or knees with anything will prevent the clammy leg syndrome.

I am getting ready to make a quilt similar to this one.

Now that you have had it for a little while is there anything you really did/didn't like about the design that might be useful to a prospective top quilt maker?

Also the baffles, are they 4 inches long? An extra 1/2 inch per 4 inches?

    Thanks

Sorry for my new guy question, but well, I am a new guy

IX is the insulation, correct? What does IX stand for, and where do you get it? Thanks!

IX is an HF abbrev. for "Insultex" which may still be available from Tree to Tree Trail Gear and from Stormcrow.

I have not had a chance to try it out yet so unfortunately I can't give a report on the warmth etc... I will be going to Mount Rogers next week so I'll be trying it out then.

The top layer of IX is 1/2" longer at each baffle. The bottom layer of each baffle is 4" long, the difference causes the top layer to bow outward creating airspace and in theory making the quilt warmer than 2 layers placed directly against each other. McEntyre accomplishes the same effect by pleating his IX quilts to create space between layers, depending on how this works in the field I may try the pleated option on my next one...

Field Test Complete - OK so I took my summer IX TQ to Mount Rogers in VA last week. The quilt was plenty warm but I definately experienced more condensation than I expected... In the morning the inside of my footbox was noticably damp.

I may try an line the inside of the footbox w/ fleece as I have seen suggested in other threads.

There are two ways to eliminate the footbox condensation. You can ventilate it, or you can line it.

If you line it with anything, it will eliminate the condensation. You only have to line it from the knees down.
