GrandTrunk how are they?

As a newby I am also considering a GT. For me, bug protection is a must, year round, so I am looking at the GT Skeeter Pro. Is this a good entry level hammock?

The Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater Pro will make a truly fine starter hammock. Especially so if you're on a tight budget. Even the stock suspension is OK for your first few hangs. I would however suggest picking up a set of tree huggers from one of the many vendors talked about here on the forums, Then working out how to tie in the existing suspension to them (with long enough tree huggers you could simply tie a marlin spike hitch using the 'S' hooks of the GT hammock as the toggles.)

swapping out the suspension on a GT hammock is quite easy. IMO the slap straps and S-hook arrangement is so sub-par there is no reason to suffer with it even one night. The cost of the suspension is offset by the price of the hammock and the fact that the suspension can be switched to any other hammock you purchase in the future.

That said, I am a fan of the GT line for quality hammocks at decent prices and good customer service. It ain't a Blackbird or an HH but it ain't junk either. The management of GT has a presence on the forums and have been very good about responding to customer inquiries.

Thanks for the encouraging replies. This is where I may be leaning for my first hanger. I guess I should check out the suspension pages next if I want to do it right....

I would suggest this as a starter suspension. Easy to use.

I just posted a review on the ENO Double Nest and the Grand Trunk Double Parachute. Both are good hammocks are almost impossible to tell apart. I recommed going with either one based on which is the lowest price at the time.
