I received my mayan hammock from mayans.com today (ordered on Friday, received on Monday AM, direct from Mexico). This is my third hammock, I have an Amazonas Moskito that i use for bike tours and hiking trips (I'll never sleep on the ground again!), a cheap cloth hammock for keeping in the back of the car for those unexpected moments, and now the "family sized" (2m x 2m bed) luxury hammock in my home office!!
I ended up going with my idea to use a hitching ring. I cut off the rings, replaced them with a shackle (rated for 1320 lbs each), and screwed each mounting plate into two adjacent studs with four 2.5" multi-material screws rated for ~450 lbs each. Connection is made with a climbing carabiner and the hammock is protected by a rope thimble.

I tested it first and it felt very secure. I then had my girlfriend (~40 lbs lighter than me) try it out and watched as she got in and repositioned herself a few times... the walls didn't deflect even the slightest bit, I couldn't detect even a single millimeter of movement, so it looks very solid.
