    Down quality question

I just found a queen sized down comforter in the closet that we aren't using (king size bed). The only info on the tag says:

"All new material consisting of WHITE GOOSE DOWN (minimum 75% down cluster)"

Is this worth salvaging for a TQ/UQ? I know it's not big enough for both, but I want at least a UQ but want to do it on the cheap. I already have a "thread injector" so I'm guessing I'd just need some ripstop, shock cord, thread and some patience.

Ultimately what I want to know is this worth using or should I just wait until I can afford a bit of synthetic material and go from there?

    No! Don't do it!

Seriously--people post this question all the time. Some of them do it, some of them don't. If they do: they end up with a super cheap and super heavy underquilt.

Do it if you want to prototype a design or just get some experience, maybe. But it'll end up heavy, and the quills will poke thru the material. I doubt you'll be long-term happy with the results.

High quality down doesn't have quills...or not many. The higher quality the down is, the fewer quills it has. That's expressed as fillpower...if it's expressed as a percentage, the fillpower is VERY low.
