Fix a hammock on small sailing boat - 1 mast

    Hi all,
trying to gather some ideas about how to hang a hammock as there is only one mast on the boat.

For the mast side, no problem, a 2 inch flat strap does a grat and easy job.

The problem is mainly the other side, missing mast side, and not to damage the boat deck!

Seen on this forum some wood pole that could do the job, then a rope going to a fence pole...

Any feedback or experience on subject appreciated

Hang from the backstay. Just put a shackle or a biner around the backstay, and haul it up with your topping lift. Works best if you have about 15 feet between the mast step and the stern.

Brilliant! As long as the boat is large enough, this should work very well.

Mac - I was thinking of using the backstay or the forestay. My sailboat was a cutter-rigged ketch and the two masts were a great distance for hanging. Back then (mid-1980s), my hammock was a net one without spreaders. Kindda made "marks" on body parts unless you laid a sheet or blanket in it to lay on. I can recall a few nights when everything was quiet at anchor or on a mooring when it seemed the more libations I had, the harder the hammock got to get out of. Imagine that!

Yeah, hammocks are black holes for drunken sailors!

    I also have hung...

    • between the shrouds and the forestay,
    • under the boom swung out overboard,
    • underneath a hard top

What i am looking for is more a solution ahead of the mast when spinnacker is not out, just using mast on one side...
