Bottom Entry on a non-asym hammock?

I'm in the process of trying to make a more lightweight hammock than my ENO singlenest. I wanted to make the netting sewn onto it all the way, and have a velcro bottom entry like a HH.

Would there be any problems with this because i'm not planning on making it asymmetrical?

Nah, the asym is just to let you lay on more of a diagonal. The slit entry will work fine if that's what you like. Remember to hugely reinforce the slit near the center of the hammock because it's under a lot of stress when you get in and out. Also make sure you use omnitape, not velcro or your bugnet will be destroyed in no time. Even the cheap omnitape will snag the bugnet a little, but I swear velcro can snag bugnet from the other side of the tarp. It's a nightmare.

If you ask nicely, you might be able to get some omnitape from 2QZQ for the price of shipping.

I'd suggest just velcro or zipper the net to the hammock.
Most folks change the bottom entry and mod to a zipper that own Hennesssey's.

And modding the hammock with the slit might end up bad

    but that's my 2 euro's?

The Hennessey hammock is not asym... it's symmetrical. The bugnet is asymmetrical. So, the BEEP (Bottom Entry/Exit Portal) is in the center of a symmetrical hammock, and the asym bugnet kinda invites you to lie on the diagonal.

I'm with Gargoyle... BEEPs are for insect infested jungles, and the rest of us send HHs to 2QZQ for a zipper mod!

    Thanks for all the replies

It looks like i'll just add a zipper where the bugnet attaches for now. Maybe later i'll try to add a bottom entry

if you put a bottom on the ENO please take pics...

if it was me i wouldn't try...most ppl that get the HH's get the zipper mods and have the bottom sewn shut.....
i had an HH i really liked it...but after about the 100th time trying to get in and out of the bottom entry it got old ...and it's a pain in the butt if you are using a pad
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

Here is the thread talking about my DIY bottom entry hammock. Weight and easiness are big things for me, so when I needed a bug net, and didn't want to carry my Claytor or my HH, I decided to make my own. It works really well, but you MUST sew the entry slit right and reinforce it a little! My base pack weight with this hammock is 8lbs, so it weighs very little. I say experiment a little and see what works best for you, the joy of DIY
