Spare suspension while travelling?

I was wondering what some of you carry in terms of spare suspension. I gather that suspension failure can be rare given the materials most seem to use but I always live be the saying "two is one and one is none" when it come to certain gear I carry. Do some of you carry extra whoopies? tree huggers? webbing? For that matter anyone carry repair materials for their hammocks? Just curious. Thanks for any input.

Nope, but yeah def a sewing kit with some glide floss in it as xtra strength thread. It has been talked about useing amsteel chainlinks as tree hugger xtenders if need be as long as the strap of the tree hugger was on the back of the tree, but I carry 8ft straps so usually dont have a problem. Paul over at AHE sells them on his Arrowhead Equipment site Disclamier Id look into this some more before trying because I have never tried this and am not sure of peoples results. But always test at home, and the only thing that I can think of that could fail on my suspension system is my toggles for my woopies which can always be made from sticks. If I forget a tree hugger around a tree well im SOL, any thing else I could improvise.

I guess I do. I mean I always carry extra cordage(a length or two of webbing, quite a bit of amsteel blue, some 550 cord, and some mason line).

I don't always carry the webbing, I guess, but I've just 8-9 of my friends converted and I can see one of them getting out to the site and with a look of terror one their face saying, "umm...I think I forgot my straps..." and I'll just grab my TP (and discreetly grab the webbing also),run behind a tree and return with straps in hand, saying "Hey, look what I just pooped out!!"

"I guess that's what I get for 'eating this hammock stuff for lunch'." Maybe not...

On a serious note, I think you should always have some extra cordage and the learn as many knots, hitches, bends, and lashings as you can. I take way more rope than I usually need and am trying to cut back, but I'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it.

i don't carry any extra, but i have made my 50' bear bag line from 7/64 amsteel. good for emergencies for other things.

I don't carry spare suspension. I use 14' to 15' foot 1" straps and look at them very closely before a trip. If they are frayed or have a weak spot, I replace them. I rarely go more than a year with the same straps. If I should suffer a break while out on the trail, I usually can tie the broken parts together and continue on with a shorter strap.

Nawh ... maybe some extra cordage but no extra suspension ... just make sure it's good when you put it up and before you head out.

I usually carry two ~10' lengths of BPL Air Core Pro (or whichever the ~1300lbs stuff is) just to have some extra cord for whatever pops up...it works for supports, too.
