I have played around with several methods of hanging my hammock (which did not come with rope or a ridgeline) and have found that using two different ropes is annoying, especially if your trees are far apart.
My new system uses one rope running between the trees, and my hammock would be clipped on by carabiners. The carabiners would probably be backed by marlin spike hitches or figure-eights to prevent sliding.
Before I go out and test it, anyone care to share their thoughts?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The single rope would double as a ridge line. You can keep two loops tied into the rope where the hammock would hook to. You could possibly also use prussic if the rope was of a sufficient diameter but I suspect it may slip cause the diameter is likely low for the ridge rope.
What I don't follow is why two ropes is a pain - especially if you put a ridgeline on the hammock itself. I'm clearly missing something. Can you elaborate in hopes that I might be able to get your meaning?
