    Question

What is IX? I find it in a lot of threads, but no definition. Thanks!

IX is shorthand for insultex, a composite fabric used for insulation.

I read through about a gazillion posts after I asked. :-)

    Thanks!

I'm hoping to order 10 yards from Storm Crow this weekend, if he has that much left.

    DIY iIX Underquilt

    Dude,

Kudos on a fine job. Wish I had the testicular virility to take on a job like that. Sounded almost a good as saying "Whoopie Slings".

Lemme get some trip pictures up! Haven't been on the forums for a bit, so I never got around to uploading the few pictures I did end up taking:

    Day 1:

    Day 2:

(please excuse the recurring theme of crack in these pictures, my friend needs a belt)

The first day we were at least a thousand feet higher than the second night, and temperatures got low enough for there to be frost on our stuff in the morning.

But I didnt notice. In the hammock it felt like the quilt was just about to its temp limit. Not sure how to explain the feeling -- I was very comfortable, but something told me i didn't want it to get any chillier than it was.

The second night was quite a bit warmer, so of course the quilt did fine then as well.

I was VERY happy with the end results of this project. I highly recommend this stuff for an inexpensive, efficient underquilt. At under 40 bucks I couldn't have asked for more from this project. And I only did two layers, I'm sure a third one would give it a hefty boost if cold weather camping is more your thing. Thanks again Mac for bringing this stuff to the forums!

On a side note, there wasn't much weather, so my tarp has still only undergone the test of how much shade it can provide (which is a pretty decent amount). The bug net i threw together before this trip was somewhat of a disappointment -- It's tapered at the ends, and I wish I hadn't done that. I could feel it restricting the lay of the hammock -- not to the point of discomfort, but definitely noticeable.

    Insultex Supply running low....

Hey there all you DIYers. Just to let you know. My supply of Insultex is running VERY low and I am not sure if I will be ordering another roll in the near future. I do not know the exact amount I have left but it is less than 50yds I believe. If I have enough people tell me they want to make an order, I will get more but right now it is not in the plans.

    Thanks everyone
