Getting ready for my first real away from home hang I had some thoughts about hammocking...or maybe that is not correct terminology but I am sure folks will get the idea. Before one buys a hammock, stores that sell them should refer buyer to this forum. Had I not found the forum I would have been 200 miles from home..freezeing, with my big butt about 2 inches off the ground, if not completely on the ground. Had it rained I would have been wet. I suppose nylon straps are OK..if you weigh less than 140 pounds...but even then I am not sure about that, but they darn sure shouldn't be used by anyone that is in the 200 plus range. How a hammock maker could sell those with a hammock rated to hold 400 pounds is beyond me. The more I read on here the more tips I come upon that is going to make hammocking much better. I have a great nephew that has the ENO and did a backyard sleep out the other night. The low was only around 66. His dad told me he woke up at about 2:00am freezing his tail off and came in the house for more bed covers...LOL. Had I known he was going to sleep out that night I would have told him what I have learned on the forum and saved him some discomfort and aggravation. I know most folks are using hammocks for backpacking but I can see it catching on for those of us who are avid fisherman or hunters who want a quick and easy setup for our getaways. It is a very comfortable way to sleep. Having been a member of several different forums for my pastime activities I have to say this is the most civil forum I have ever been on. I want to thank all who have responded to my questions...there will be more. There are too many of you to list by name but you know who you are. I read of several on here using the word "addiction" when talking about hammocks. I am beginning to see how that can be.
