Whats your favorite carabiner

Mine are Black Diamond wiregates. Not huge, not tiny, and I got a set of four on ebay for $18. Still climbing rated and such. They do look tiny compared to my 20year old BD autolock/doublelock though. Man that thing is huge. (Used to use it for rappelling, and now its used on the bedroom hammock. Don't care how heavy that setup is.)

I'm just using SMC aluminum 'biners for now. They're two that I used when I was a fire service High Level Rescue Instructor years ago. Haven't decided if I'm going to get Nano's, Dutch Clips or nacro's yet

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the nacrbiners yet.

For hammock use, a climbing biner is way overkill and way heavier than a nacrabiner made from 1/8", 7/64" or 2 mm dyneema.

The climbing wire biners are slightly easier to use though.

Last hang I used only nacrabiners. Love them but like you wrote, using a normal biner is easier (and faster).

Seconding Nacrabiners. ~20 cents and weighs 1.5 grams. Definitely not as quick... but fun to make.

Nacrabiners. Slower by the narrowest of margins, and I don't really care about speed when hanging the hammock. I want to get the tarp up quickly, but I'm ok after that.

By saying that biners are faster it wasn't about how quickly the hammock can be setup but more about how when you have some weight on the suspension line a biner can be clipped on quicker than a nacrabiner, making the process less cumbersome.

For example, on my last hang I had to hang close to one tree and far from the second. After settling in for the night I discovered the foot end of the hammock (connected to the far tree) was too low and the tree huggers had to be raised. Since the hammock was fully weighted with TQ, UQ, pillow, etc, trying to undo the nacrabiner was tricky. A traditional biner would have allowed me to unclip one handed.

I'll probably carry a single biner with me to compliment the nacrabiners for when difficult situations arise.
