    Backyard Holliday Hangout (several pics)

After spending several hours developing the site earlier this spring, spkldoe, shadow and me finally got to spend a night hangin’ in my backyard retreat. The wooded area straddles a ridge that separates the front and back halves of our property.

    General view of our campsite

    Lookin’ out

Lays in the shadow of Little Sewell Mtn

We cranked up the first fire in the new fire pit constructed of dry-stacked field stone gathered on the property and chowed down on roasted hot dogs w/ fixins washed down w/ a fine lager and later toasted marshmallows . The evening songbird concert included a bullfrog on bass and the neighbors on the next ridge over provided a fireworks show.

    Cooking fire settling

Later in the evening, we banked the fire and turned in. Spkldoe, a confirmed ground hog, retreated to her tent complete w/ full air bed and a sleeping bag rated at least 30 degrees colder than forecasted temps. I crawled in my SB Pro appointed with my new Insultex UQ and TQ courtesy of Mr. MacEntyre.

I fiddled with the UQ a few times during the night and once dialed in, I was quite comfy at 52 degrees wearing only sleep shorts, t-shirt and helmet liner though about 3 a.m. I did add a sweatshirt. These quilts are great!…thanks Mac…you've made hanging on my future motorcycle campouts much, much simpler.

Must be the new snowflage version

Daybreak brought bacon, eggs, toast, hot tea and spkldoe sporting her hot pink smiley flannel jammies . After breakfast and time to reflect, I gathered more firewood and plan to return to hang again tonight. Our lil’ retreat is far from complete, but already…LIFE IS GOOD!!

    Ummm, bacon!

Shadow trying to contain her enthusiasm

    But remaining ever watchful

EDIT: Remembered the dog, but forgot spkldoe's pic...man am I in deep doo!

We are indeed blessed to have our place. I'm reminded of that each time I play in our backyard hangout.

The heat and humidity are returning here soon and the best camping is behind us. All bets are off starting tomorrow. Gonna savor tonight.

    Good 4th to ya.

Great spot for a hang and on your own property, nice bonus.

Thanks for the report and pictures.
