    USGI hammock

This may be the best place to find out about a hammock I've had in the closet for a while.

Does anyone know much about the USGI Vietnam jungle hammock? The real issue one not a copy. It has the attached bug net and tarp. It's stone age I know but I'd like to get it operational. The only time I tried to hang it it was "leaning" so much to one side and would dump you. There seems to be a lot of adjustment capability by the metal "triangle" and string system on it but I'm not familiar with how it is supposed to work.

I could not find hardly any info on the net except for those "military styles". Not the same.

I have one... at 5 lbs, it is hardly worth doing much with it. It's a conversation piece.

I'd like to set it up in the yard for my son. I'd never really take it hiking

Somewhere in my dad's stash of stuff are two jungle hammocks vintage WW II (I'm guessing that). We used them a lot when I was a kid. The tarp required you to cut two sticks for spreader bars. They were made from heavy stinky canvas, will never forget that smell, all tents from my childhood were made from this! These hammocks used hemp rope, bet they weighed at least 40 pounds. Last time we used them one of the rotted ropes broke in the middle of the night. Might have to dig these out next time I'm around. They were nearly bullet proof and I spent some stormy nights in these with no water getting in.
