If your pack is inexplicably 175 lbs heavier and making breathing sounds, pay no attention to it. It's definitely not me hiding in there.
Looks like a great trip! Yosemite is one place I've wanted to go but have never been. I'm jealous!
Salty
I've been to Yosemite a couple of times but have not hung - a trip to "climb" Half Dome in 2006 and a trip to 4 of the High Sierra camps in 2008 with the entire family. The High Sierra camps trip was around Toulumne Meadows. Each camp has a backpacker campground nearby. The camps have showers and meals as well as tent cabins. Might be nice for one night to clean up and eat well.
On the way to the valley, you might consider the High Sierra camp areas because they were sited in some of the best locations around. But there will be folks around so if you're looking for solitude, they may not be best for you. Other than that, Cloud's Rest is nice - it is actually higher than Half Dome and has great views. About 6 or 7 miles from Tenaya Lake.
I couldn't tell from your post if you plan on climbing Half Dome. If so, Little Yosemite Valley south of HD is a good base camp. It's also a good overnight on the way from Cloud's Rest to the Valley.
Have a great trip!!!! I'm jealous.
I just got back from my Yosemite trip and I had no problem hanging. A bit of advice though is to have some long straps, there are some big trees there. My setup is a HH with AHE cinch buckles on the long chain link and 10' straps with dutch clips.
Hey that's great to know!! Did your hammock set-up get eyeballed by the rangers?
Flying out early Sun. wish me luck. 10 days out in the wild I'm stoked Thanks for all the info
Just got back, had a great time hammocking in the Sierras spent last night looking up at star filled sky hanging on 150 ft pines
Can't wait for some pics!
