I still prefer my Dutch clips and my whoopie slings on toggles. Quick, simple and I don't get any sag.

Just watched that video...hummm... wellllll..... All I can say is that I really hope "Critter" decides to check us out over here. I like that he's promoting hammocking. I don't like his methods. It's like someone that talks about the food cooked in a cast iron dutch oven and then recommends washing it with soap. They know just enough to "get it wrong".

I am concerned about recommending Figure 9's to support a hammock. If my memory serves me correctly, they are not rated anywhere near strong enough for hanging a hammock and its "contents".

I about jumped out of my skin 54 seconds in to the video. Notice the bark as he snugs up the rope...That tree is clearly already long dead. Widow maker!
It's also an excellent demonstration of why not to use a rope on a live tree.

Well maybe he'll listen to Paul and find out how it needs to be done. That's wrong on several levels.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

First for the figure 9's. They make some monsterous figure 9's and what he has is plenty strong. You all are correct that those teeth on the f9 would be real hard on the rope. Rope is way wrong for the tree. What I was hoping to see was Crittr actually get into the hammock. I had mine stung way to tight once. Not even close to what Crittr did. It closed like a clam. That would have had me rolling on the floor to see him disapear. One of our Ohio brothers (or sisters) needs to get a hold of Crittr and educate him on how it is done properly. He needs to watch some of Shugs videos or Professor Hammocks videos. Brain lock I cant think of his forum name.

It's crap like this that got hammocks banned from so many state parks.

Been thinking about this one for a while and I think it might be good it we flooded our comments onto the video. If they started to see that we as a community were speaking up about the improper techniques shown they may retract the video. They have something in the neigborhood of 21,000 subscribers that are now looking at this as "the way" to hang a hammock. I have read that there are a good number of comments so far but we should flood that comment page with --please go to Hammock Forums to learn how to do it correctly.

    My 2 Cents.

Stepping away from the soapbox now
