    Yellowstone / Grand Tetons

Let me warn you, there's no hammocks here. Now that most have left, I'll continue.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I took a trip out to Wyoming for our 10 year anniversary. We saw the usual sights around Yellowstone, but took the opportunity to get away from the crowds and do some day hiking in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons (she was fine with hiking, as long as she had a shower and king-size bed to return to at night).

Again, no hammocks in the photos, but plenty of fun nonetheless.

Here's a few preview photos. If you want to see more, here's the rest of the photos.

I also put some of the photos and some video footage into a video summary of the trip:

If you can't view the video above, the video can be found here.

Loved the way you put the video together ... beautiful. Got to get back out there some day soon. That bison crossing the walk way ... priceless ... looked like he was checking to see if he could get a head rub first!

    Jason,
first things first... tell Becki thank you for being there with you as any good partner should be.

I, like HawkEye, thought the bison getting onto the walkway was really cool, for me it made the while thing feel real, I thought for sure he was going to come right to the cameraman.

Great footage and editing job pal, the mix of stills and videos give the finished product a "I want to watch it again feel". You and Becki need to keep making videos for us to enjoy.

Very well done, Jason! That really brought back the memories from my my first REAL backpack trip 25 years ago, a loop up Cascade Canyon( pretty sure it was) to sleep on Paintbrush divide, hiking down another canyon (name? don't remember)back to Jenny lake. This was in September and we got down to the vehicle just hours ahead of 6" of snow in the valley and several feet up where we had just come from. (Also memories of my many ski trips there in the following years.) That backpack was really something, and your video really took me back there!

In the picture of Becky walking away from you, just after the "Mt.Washburn" pic and right before the "video" icon, can you remember which direction you are facing with the camera, the direction Becky is walking? If it is Southeast, that is probably the Gros vents and a bit of the Wind Rivers on the horizon, which tends to be my stomping grounds these days. But those Tetons and Yellowstone are something else.

Thanks. I thought the music seemed to work well with the video. Glad you agree.

It's hard to realize how big the bison are, until one unexpectedly decides to check you out from close range. Those guys are HUGE!

Becki was not impressed with how long that guy stopped to check us out.

For those who don't click the link to see the pics or watch the video, here's the bison who gave us a long stare before moving on.

I've got to give Becki credit. She loves hiking & backpacking, but just wanted a hotel on this trip (since it was vacation). The only bad thing is I haven't converted her to a hammock yet.

Thanks. Cascade Canyon in the Tetons was awesome. I could do without the first mile (once across the lake) due to all the people. I've never seen so many old ladies hiking in dress clothes and dress shoes! Once we went past Inspiration Point, the crowd thinned out and we were able to hike alone for quite a while. We got a late start into the canyon and were racing a thunderstorm, so we only got to go in about 4 miles.

I'm guessing you went in Cascade Canyon and out Paintbrush Canyon? That looks like a fun hike that I'll remember if (when) we go back.

Now to your question about this image...we were leaving Mt. Washburn. We were probably about 200 yards from the summit at that point. We were facing southeast. You can see Grand Canyon of Yellowstone in the image. Yellowstone Lake was visible from the summit, probably just to the right of Becki in that photo. I'm guessing the mountains in the pic are around Avalanche Peak???
